LTE, NB-IoT
Nowadays, NB-IoT or LTE-M is available throughout Europe. The mobile narrowband services NB-IoT and LTE-M are optimized for applications with low power consumption and low data usage, such as GPS tracking and smart sensors. Various mobile operators offer the service with coverage that is often just as good as 5G. SIM cards with enough data for 10 years are already available for purchase for €10.
We have a wide range of NB-IoT and LTE-M products.
With these devices, measurement data or status changes from the sensor are transmitted via the NB-IoT/LTE-M network to an IoT platform. You can configure the sensor to send the data to the platform of your choice. Well-known IoT platforms include AWS, Azure, ThingsBoard, ThingSpeak, ThingsEye and Datacake. You can configure the platform so that the data is displayed graphically on a dashboard. For a small number of devices, such an IoT platform is often free. Some of these platforms have an app and can send an SMS or email.
The products contain a card holder for an NB-IoT/LTE-M SIM card. These special SIM cards are available from most mobile providers. There are also providers such as 1NCE that offer SIM cards usable throughout Europe.
The sensor manual explains how to set up the sensor and how to send the measurements to the IoT platform.
More technical information can also be found on Wikipedia and on the website of iotcreators.
We can supply Dragino sensor nodes with a 1NCE SIM card. This sensor is configured to send the data to the ThingsEye platform, where you can view the measured data directly in a dashboard.
The sensor can also be configured to send the data to your own server. Your server must be connected to the internet and support MQTT, MQTTs, UDP, or TCP. You need to develop a program on your system that converts the data to the desired display, such as Node-RED.
